About the Challenge4Change Fundraising Program

The Objectives
  • Develop a multi-year fundraising campaign to generate revenue for the building of online communities that will benefit Indigenous peoples in Canada
  • Focus initially on languages & culture and then follow with other online communities including youth empowerment, health & wellness and more
  • Demonstrate the leadership of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUIR) in addressing these challenges
  • Year One – to fund further development of Nanaamwin – see case study
The Solution
  • Pilot the first campaign in Ontario with the positioning of Together for Indigenous Languages
  • Establish a tangible, action-based program that can be championed by both Indigenous and Non-Indigenous peoples
  • Develop a fun and engaging, free app to encourage users to learn simple words and phrases in Anishinaabemowin – once the everyday language of many Indigenous communities in Ontario
  • Engage corporations, organizations, government departments and influencers as well as the general public to show their support through donations, fundraising and by helping to raise awareness
  • Leverage key national recognition: National Indigenous History month (June) and National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21, 2018)
  • Raise the profile and impact of the campaign through social media, PR and media appearances
The Result
  • The pilot fundraising campaign reached over $612,000
  • Appearances on live TV, radio and print, including CTV, CBC and the Globe and Mail
  • Social Engagement (to mid-August): 530+ followers, engagements: 60K+, 355K+ reach/impressions
  • App downloads: 1,200+
